Decatur Soccer Fields

Directions are from Huntsville starting at I-565 & Memorial Parkway

New Southwest Park

The new Southwest Park is ready for practice and games for the 2005 Fall Season. The park includes thirty acres of laser graded, irrigated, and lighted fields with certified sportsturf which will fit ten international size soccer fields. The complex will rank among the best in the South.
Take I-565 from Huntsville. Go past Interstate 65. I-565 becomes Highway 20 and then merges with Highway 31 just before you cross the Tennessee River. You will cross over the River Bridge. Stay on Highway 31. Go approximately two miles. Turn right on Beltline Road (aka Highway 67). Go over the overpass and Adventure Park playground and Wilson Morgan Park will be on your right. Keep going about two miles and turn left on Danville Road - The Beltline Mall will be on the corner of Danville Road and the Beltline Road. Go out Danville Road approximately half a mile and turn right on Modaus Road. The entrance to the new park will be about a mile on your right. Turn right onto Highway 67 (Beltline Road).  Go about 2 miles to Modaus Road. Modaus Road will be the traffic light after Spring Avenue. There is a Home Depot on the left. Follow the road over the hill to the parking area.  The park is new and is not marked well yet.

Directions to Southwest Park from Florence:
This is the most direct route and avoids the shopping traffic on the Beltline.  From Muscle Shoals take Highway 20 (Alternate 72) to Decatur and as you come through the industrial area entering Decatur look for the intersection of Woodall Road and Finley Island Road with Highway 20. There is a Discount Food Mart gas station on one corner and a Jacks Restaurant on the other. Turn left onto Woodall Road. Continue on Woodall Road for approximately 4 miles. At 3 miles, Woodall Road will become Shady Grove Lane SW. Shady Grove Lane SW (Woodall Rd) intersects Modaus Road. Make a left onto Modaus Road. At approximately 0.7 miles, Modaus Road widens into 3 lanes. The park will be on the left but is new and is not marked well yet.  At this point make a left on the road going up the hill. Follow the road over the hill to the parking area.

Do not go into the Point Mallard Campgrounds. Follow Point Mallard Drive into the Point Mallard Aquatic area. At the far end of the park there are lots of soccer fields on the left next to the Point Mallard Stage area.  There are ten tall stadium light poles to identify the soccer fields.

Directions to Point Mallard from Birmingham:
Go up I-65 to the Highway 67 exit. You will exit to the right off of the interstate, go to the bottom of the ramp and turn left (going back under the I-65 overpass). Go about 6 miles and turn right on Highway 31 (also known as Sixth Avenue). The Lynn Layton Chevrolet car dealership is on the corner of Highways 67 and 31. After you turn right go will go about two miles to a McDonald's Hamburgers. It is on the corner of Highway 31 and 8th Street SE. Turn right on 8th Street. Follow 8th Street as far as you can go until you pass the golf course and a soccer field on your left. At the next intersection turn right. If you go straight by mistake you will be in the Point Mallard Campgrounds. Follow that road as far as you can go (about a mile). It makes a huge sweeping curve through the whole Point Mallard Complex. After you pass the baseball fields (on left) and Aquatic Center (on your right) the soccer complex will be on your left.  Look for the tall stadium type lights.

Turn left into the parking lot. The soccer field is at the rear of the school between two baseball fields. It is a very narrow field - only about 42 yards wide by my estimation.

This park is not actually Wolverine Park but rather the area in front of the entrance to Wolverine Tube's Tennessee River Boat Dock and Park.  The land actually belongs to the Point Mallard Park.  It is located on 8th Street SE just before you get to the golf course.
